Why the vanity is the highest-ROI room change

Of every visible change you can make in a bathroom, the vanity does the most for how the room reads. Better cabinetry, a stone counter, better sink shape, taller (comfort-height) build, and updated faucet and lighting — that alone flips a dated bath into a current one, without opening walls or moving plumbing.

What a vanity install includes

• Demo of the old vanity, top, sink(s), faucet(s) and mirror.
• Any wall repair where the old vanity backsplash was.
• New cabinet — floor-mount, wall-hung (floating), single or double.
• New countertop — quartz, granite, marble, sintered stone (Dekton, Neolith), or solid surface.
• New sink(s) — under-mount, drop-in, or integrated with the top.
• New faucet(s) and drain assembly.
• Reworked supply and drain plumbing to match the new sink location.
• New mirror and light fixture over the vanity, if you want them updated at the same time.

Counter material — the honest trade-offs

• Quartz (engineered stone — Caesarstone, Cambria, Silestone). The everyday winner in a bathroom: sealed at the factory, doesn't stain, wide pattern selection, and a warranty behind it. Nothing to maintain.
• Marble (Carrara, Calacatta, Statuary). Unmatched look. Etches on contact with acidic liquids — perfume, mouthwash, red wine — and stains without sealing. Fine on a bathroom counter that gets sealed annually; not fine for someone who wants zero upkeep.
• Granite. Very hard, durable, seals up well. Fewer contemporary color options than quartz.
• Sintered stone (Dekton, Neolith). The most durable option — nothing scratches or stains it. Higher cost, narrower fabricator network.
• Solid surface (Corian). Seamless integrated sinks are the strong case for it — no rim to catch water, no caulk seam to fail.

Vanity height and the "comfort-height" question

Standard vanity height is 30–32". Comfort-height is 36". If everyone in the household is 5'6" or taller, comfort-height is more comfortable to use (less bending), and it's now the default in new construction. Below 5'4", the standard height is a better fit.
