Which bathroom projects need a permit in Yakima?
Anything that moves plumbing, changes electrical, or alters walls needs a permit — through City of Yakima Codes Administration inside city limits, or Yakima County Public Services Building & Fire Safety for unincorporated addresses. A purely cosmetic swap — a new vanity in the same spot — usually does not. Your remodeler should pull any required permit and coordinate inspections; you should never be pulling permits for a contractor's work.
What's a "curbless" walk-in shower and is it a good idea?
Curbless means no threshold to step over — the shower floor is level with the bathroom floor. It looks modern, makes the bathroom feel bigger, and (importantly for aging in place) it's wheelchair and walker-accessible. It requires recessing the shower area into the subfloor, which is why not every contractor offers it — so ask whether yours does, including on slab-on-grade homes common in newer West Valley construction.
